T.H.O.R.N. Ministries
Homeless Project
T.H.O.R.N. - Thankfully Helping Others Real Needs Ministries is a mobile feeding outreach with branches that serve food, gift medical supplies, first aid, clothing, hygiene supplies, friendship and referrals. For more information visit: http://www.thornministries.org/
Every Sunday, members of our salon staff and salon clients gather to help T.H.O.R.N charter members feed approximately 400 homeless souls in three locations around the city of Tampa, Florida. Our primary goal remains to bring some important dignity and comfort to those who are less fortunate. Our clients have been wonderful in their donations and support of our homeless outreach program.
Matter of Trust
Matter of Trust creates ecological programs that focus on dealing with manmade and natural surplus and providing eco-education. The idea is that Mother Nature will supply what is needed to take care of important environmental issues, if we just look around for it. This notion can be seen in the Natural Fiber Oil Spill Booms program. Hair and other renewable fibers such as feathers, fur clippings and fleece are used to cleanup up waterways that have been affected by oil spills. Before partnering with Matter of Trust, our Michael Angelo Hair Studio management team was already expanding on our green salon initiatives. One of our first projects was to find better use of the pounds of hair we discard every day, rather than sending them to landfills. This is what led us to discover Matter of Trust. They were actually doing something useful with this salon by-product. After a year of collecting hair, we wondered why more salons weren’t getting involved with this great organization. Then the worst oil spill in American history happened, the BP Gulf oil spill. We never thought we would play such an important role in creating awareness for this project. In an effort to spread the word, we wrote up and distributed a simple press release which opened up the flood gates for media exposure here in Florida and across the globe. We are very proud to say that we were instrumental in getting thousands of other hair salons, cosmetology schools and pet groomers to sign up for this program. Despite BP’s unwillingness to use the donated natural fibers, they are currently being used to protect the shores, estuaries and canals of gulf municipalities, harbors, beach condominium associations and hotels. The Matter of Trust organization shows no signs of slowing down. Everyone wants to make a difference in the world and this was our little ripple, which was felt around the world. Please take a moment and read some of the articles written about us on our media page. Remember, anyone can make a difference in the world. We are living proof.
